On March 27, 2008 at 0326 hours, the department received a complaint of a robbery that occurred at a gas station located at 222 Old Gate Lane.  Investigation revealed that Peter Barone age 35, of 223 Rose Street extension, East Haven entered the gas station partial hiding his face. Barone displayed a knife to the store employee, went behind the counter and removed an undetermined amount of money.  Barone then left the scene in a vehicle.  A witness who observed the incident followed Barone’s vehicle and contacted the police department.  Officers traveling on a dead end street in the immediate area located Barone.  At this time, Barone attempted to ram a police cruiser and proceeded onto I-95 when he struck a police cruiser.  Barone then fled from the vehicle into a swamp.  A short time after, the department received a phone call from a hotel clerk stating there was a male in wet clothing in their lobby asking for a taxicab.  Officers responded and apprehended Barone without incident.  The knife was later recovered in Barone’s vehicle.  Barone was charged with the following: Robbery 1st degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault on a Police Officer (2 counts), Larceny 6th degree, Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, Interfering with a Police Officer, Reckless Driving and Engaging Police in Pursuit. A $100,000 bond was placed on Barone and he is currently being held at the Milford Police Department on the above charges.  Barone was involved in a similar incident in West Haven just prior to this one.  The Milford Detective Bureau is investigating Barone as a possible suspect in previous robbery of gas station in Milford approximately a week ago.
